Tonsil and adnoidectomy

One week ago today Emma-Leigh had her tonsils and adnoids taken out. She is still recovering. Here are a few pictures...

Here she is waiting in the lobby - yes, she wore her robe, pj's and slippers to her surgery. Since we had to be there at 6:45am I figured - why not? She's gonna change when they get her back there anyway...

She said she looked like a freak - I thought she looked cute!

The nurses at the surgery center were EXCELLENT! They were SO good with Emma-Leigh and made it a great experience for her. Here she is with a puppet they gave her, she named it Daffodil - lamb on one side, lion on the other. In like a lion - out like a lamb? haha.
So of course we both had to get in a little time with her before they rolled her in...

Damion and I both stood there and watched them wheel her into the operating room. I was on the verge of tears - I am quite certain Damion was too. Vickie and Donald came to see her right before her surgery. She liked that! It lasted for about 45 minutes and Dr. Melvin came out into the lobby to tell us it had gone great - that her tonsils were very large, her adnoids medium and that she had a whole bunch of snot in there that he cleaned out. Nice, huh? haha. He was great and EL really likes him! Since Emma-Leigh is so little they decided that instead of just numbing her up and sticking her for an IV, they would put her to sleep first with the mask and then insert her IV. Great plan. So after surgery she went into the wake up room, then to recovery which is where we were reunited.
The nurses said she was their patient of the day! She hadn't cried at all (Dr. Melvin said she would probably be crying when we got to her). Poor thing looked bad though. They served her a slushy and Sprite!

The princess was given the option of being carried to the car by her daddy, riding in a wagon or being wheeled out in a wheelchair. She chose the wheelchair. haha. Damion and I stayed home with her for the rest of the day. Sarah, Riley & Reagan came over to visit and she really enjoyed that. They came again the next day (I stayed home with her again) as did mom and dad, Cindy & Brody. We had a pretty layed back weekend until Saturday night when she decided she wanted a triple chocolate meltdown. Applebees here we come!

so she didn't eat very much but she did manage to get down one cheese stick so a little progress was made. Sunday she woke up with her ears hurting. Dr. Melvin said this would happen, the radiated pain is normal I just hate to see her in (even more) pain. So she hasn't gone back to school yet. Monday school was cancelled because of snow ?? (which we didn't have) so she was able to stay home while mom came to our house to hang out. She has been at Sarah's since Tuesday and will be there again tomorrow. I'm so thankful to have Sarah to turn to in times like these. Can't wait to repay her when Riley and Reagan are older :)

Madison will have school on Saturday this week. Lovely snow (lack of) is the cause of that. Abigail's 6th birthday party is tomorrow night at Chuck E Cheese and that is all we have planned for the weekend!

Back to our routine

Finally. Today was a regular school day. We haven't had one of those in what - almost 2 weeks? Then before that they were out for Christmas. Whew. I do have a tiny confession though...when my alarm clock went off at 5:25 this morning, I was wishing for a 2 hour delay. How sad is that? I am having the hardest time keeping my eyes open right now. Guess I should have skipped watching The Bachelor last night. Anyway, it has been a few days since I've blogged so let me catch up. Rewind to last weekend . . . Madison and Emma-Leigh both had friends over Friday night - Emily and Bethany. Damion decided to play in a charity poker tournament so I took the girls, along with mom and dad, to Twisted Crepe for dinner. It is always so good. I have not had a crepe there that I did not like. I had also rented 5 movies for the weekend from Redbox - Nanny McFee returns for EL and Bethany, Piranha for Madison & Emily and Charlie St. Cloud, Easy A and Social Network for myself. :) I love to sit around and watch movies! I also curled EL & Bethany's hair in sponge rollers. They really enjoyed it.

Saturday, after the girls' friends left we went to Target and Harris Teeter. That was it for the whole day. It was kinda nice! Sunday we went to church. Of course, Damion didn't go. I struggle with this every time I go. I don't want to just take the girls by myself. I want him to go. I want him to want to go. I get why he doesn't though. It's his only day off, he wants to rest. But it still upsets me. I am never in the bed all day long unless I'm sick. I just want him to take 2 hours out of his morning to sit with his family at church. Maybe one day. Damion's parents have been going to church for about the past 3 or 4 weeks. This past Sunday was the first time we had actually gone at the same time as them so it was real nice to have them to sit with. After church Cindy & the kids came over to hang out for a little while and later on in the evening we went to Papas & Beer for dinner. Yum!

In just 2 days Emma-Leigh will be having surgery. She is having her tonsils and adnoids removed. I think she is really ready for this to happen. She has a hard time breathing and is so pale all the time. I am hoping her mood will improve as well. So think about us these next few days. I will be home with her on Thursday and Friday. Hope everyone is having a great week so far!

SNOW, SNOW, and MORE SNOW!!

I am NOT complaining. I love a good snow! The only thing I will complain about is being too old to enjoy snow days. I still have the nagging responsibility of work. We were closed the first day it snowed though - we got about 7 inches at our house. I can't remember Dr. T ever closing the office in the (almost) 11 years that I've worked for him. It is quite possible that it has happened before though. My memory tends to fail me more and more. So here's a picture of the beautiful snow.

What saddens me most about snow days - other than the fact that I have to work, is that the girls don't play in the snow. They don't even want to. Our yard is completely flat and the road to our house would be perfect to sled down but the Town of Fletcher scrapes it the first day. Again, I am not complaining. It is nice to be able to get out if we need to but...I kinda want to play. Mom did take the girls over to Brett & Sarah's yesterday - they had a good time sledding with Riley and her friends. I don't have any pictures :( The other sad thing about snow is that while everyone else is trapped inside, Damion is out plowing snow! Good for him but those days tend to be his longest days. So the girls have missed school every day this week - we aren't sure about tomorrow just yet but with it being Friday I can't imagine it being a very productive day. Because of this weather, my weekend plans have been cancelled :( that also makes me sad. The girls and I were planning on going to Pinehurst this weekend for a girl's weekend with Tiff, Jaidyn and Ayla. Todd will be away for a soccer tournament and it was going to work out beautifully. However, because of the snow, Jaidyn will be going to school on Saturday and Tiff will use that time to catch up at work. Bummer.

I found out yesterday that a raise is just not in the cards for me again this year. Another bummer. Good things come to those who wait, right? I'm not a patient person. It's not really even about the money anyway. It's the gesture. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my boss. But I take my job very seriously. It's not just a place I come to hang out at for 9 hours, 5 days a week. This is what I do. I like it. I enjoy it. I take it very seriously. Oh well.

New year brings new year's resolutions...

or NOT. Resolutions get broken - so here's my goal....to drink more water. There, that's easy, isn't it? Just drink water. But see here's the thing, I DON'T LIKE WATER. I need sweet tea or milk - those are my choices. So here we are at day 3 (because I started on Monday and not the actual first day of the year) and so far today I have drank about 4 ounces of water. ALL DAY. That's it! Nothing else. I don't drink enough as it is but I am really struggling with this. The first day I did great. Water all day - a lot of it even, and then had milk with my dinner. Yesterday not so good. I went to El Charro for lunch - because who wants to hurt Dr. Travis's feelings by saying no when he offers to buy lunch ;) and I had sweet tea :( but that's only because I had a headache!! You will be happy to know that I tried to redeem myself by skipping dinner. I had taken the girls to chick-fil-a after the gym last night because it was Glen Arden night and I was so hot from running that I decided not to eat. So there ya go. But today...I may have a breakdown. I've already had 3 miniature reese cups so I've already splurged as it is. Oh well. I've also noticed that I am working on a double chin. This can not happen. So I've researched different exercises that I can do to eliminate it. I hope it helps. I know I should decrease my caloric intake but I like to eat! ugh. Hopefully none of you are struggling with your resolutions just yet!

Goodbye 2010

It is 2011 - never thought we would see it. Wasn't the world coming to an end in 2K? haha. Yeah, no one knows when the world is coming to an end. This post is a bit of a recap of all things 2010. Some of it you may have seen before but it is something I wanted to do so here ya go!

January brought lots of snow and the girls and Brody worked dilligently for HOURS on an igloo or snow cave - I forget now what they called it. They were so proud of it when they were done.

In February, Madison, Bayley and Cameron got their ears pierced for the 2nd time, Emma-Leigh dressed up as Betsy Ross for school and mom had a birthday!

In March, Riley had her first sleepover at our house!

The month of April brought extremely warm temperatures and day after day of beautiful weather. We spent the entire spring break at the park. It was one of the best weeks of the year!

Also in April, Madison was baptised and Emma-Leigh played her first soccer game. Busy month!

In May, Kim had a birthday, Sterling came to visit and I got to meet Banks, EL had soccer games every Saturday morning, we found out Sarah was having a girl and we made our first trip of the summer to the lake!

June was also a very busy month for us. EL started AWANAS at church, Riley turned 2, EL was in her spelling bee at school, Madison tried out for cheerleading and made the team, we had brunch at Grove Park Inn for Father's Day while the guys spent the day golfing, many weekends were spent at the pool and we went on our very first cruise!

We kicked July off with a weekend at the lake, Emma-Leigh turned 8, Andrea came to town and I was able to meet Garrett for the first time, we had dinner at Grove Park Inn and I had a Mary Kay makeover!

August is Birthday month for me and for Damion. I started the celebration with lunch with a small group of friends, had lunch with Sarah and Riley one day, Jen and I went to Elaine's to celebrate one night and my mom surprised me with a day of shopping and dinner at Papas & Beer. Damion went racing in Charlotte, we had a rainy weekend at the lake, school started back and I got to meet Kim's mom for the first time!

September lead to the first of several football games, a night out with Kristi for her birthday, the fair came to town, and Tiff and I took our girls on a trip to Charlotte to Carowinds for Girl's Weekend!

Fall like weather was upon us in October. We enjoyed nice cool evenings, more football games, some pumpkin painting, Reagan arrived and we went trick-or-treating!

Now we are at November - Madison's birthday month! But first we had a nice visit from Tiff and the girls and lunch at Twisted Crepe - our first outing with Reagan! and Madison (and most of her friends) made straight A's - for.the.first.time.ever!

December lead to the first of many basketball games, the Christmas parade, Madison & Amelia's 13th birthday bash, decorating for Christmas and all things Christmasy!

Whew! That made me tired! And from the looks of it, the pictures aren't in order but hey - you get the idea. I will not try to fix it! haha
But that is our year in a nut shell. I'd say it was a pretty good one. Hopefully this one will be even better!
